Summer is here and we need to keep ourselves hydrated and fresh. What’s better than a bowl full of watermelon which is supertasty and superhealthy.

Watermelon contains around 92% water, 6%sugar and is low in fat. You can find calcium, magnesium, protein, fiber, Vitamin A, Vitamin B6, Vitamin C and potassium all in one watermelon.

When To Consume?

The right time to eat a watermelon is in the morning or afternoon. (not digestion friendly, if consumed at night)

You can take watermelon as pre workout meal. Eat one hour before workout, it keeps you hydrated and provide energy for workout. Don’t worry about calories, it is very low in calories.

Benefits of Consuming Watermelon

🍉 Watermelon may be helpful in reducing the risk of cancer through its antioxidant properties.

🍉 Watermelon contains Vitamin C, that is essential for cell structure and immune function. Vitamin C also promotes wound healing and healthy skin.

🍉 Studies have found that watermelon seeds are one of the most nutrient dense varieties of seeds. They are rich source of vitamins, protein, zinc, copper, omega3 and omega 6 fatty acids. So, don’t throw them while eating watermelon.

Side Effects of Watermelon

Consuming too much watermelon is said to have some side effects.

1)Consuming in large quantity may give rise to digestive problems like bloating and gas.

2) If you are a diabetic, eating too much watermelon may increase blood sugar levels.

3) People who drink alcohol regularly, should avoid having large quantities of watermelon as the high level of lycopene may react with alcohol, further causing liver problems.

4) Consuming in large quantities may increase the level of water in our body. If excess water is not excreted it can lead to problems like swelling in body, weak kidneys.

5) Too much potassium canead to cardiovascular problems like weak pulse rate, irregular heartbeat,etc.

These problems only happen when you consume watermelon in large quantities. You can take 300-400 grams that won’t harm you. You can eat watermelon as raw, juice, salad and smoothie.

Diet is often seen as something negative but this shouldn’t be the case. Diet is associated with a person’s overall food intake.

Diet is the food that a person habitually eats. Whether a person makes good or bad food choices, these things make up their diet.
If you are following good food choices that means you are following a healthy diet.

Healthy diet leads to a healthy lifestyle.

Healthy diet includes fruits, vegetables legumes, nuts and whole grains(examples, oats, wheat, brown rice).
If you are following bad food choices that means you are following  an unhealthy diet and it  leads to diseases such as obesity, abdominal pain, diabetes and infection.


It is generally recommended to follow a balanced diet. Balanced diet is low in unnecessary fats and sugar and high in vitamins minerals and other nutrients.


Nutrition
Nutrition is the quality of food that our body needs to function optimally. Our body needs nutrition in a balanced quantity. This includes right amount of carbohydrates, protein and healthy fats.


Carbohydrates rich foods  : vegetables, fruits, cereals, whole grains, etc.


Protein rich foods: eggs, almonds, tuna(fish), broccoli, peanut, pumpkin seeds, etc.


Healthy fats rich food : nuts, seeds, avocado’s, dark chocolate, Chia seeds, fatty fish like salmon, etc.


Proper nutrition also consists of minerals, vitamins, fibre and right amount of water.

A person’s diet may consist of processed food, packaged food, and junk food. These are inferior food choices and should be avoid to attain good health. Unhealthy food is toxic and damages mind and body. The more chemicals and toxins we are exposed to, the worse our health becomes.
